RPAS MANUFACTURER TYPE TRAINING
Mongrel Gear is now offering a 4 to 5 hour RPAS training program. This training program will give you a comprehensive introduction into Remote Piloted Aircraft systems (Multi-Rotor).
This training is recognised by CASA as "Manufacturer Training" when purchasing an aircraft through Mongrel Gear, or if you have own an aircraft that we currently build and distribute such as DJI and TBS etc.
If you are looking to get certified, or would like to learn more about these machines, this program will assist you.
The program will cover topics such as the machines themselves, safety, LiPo battery information and safety, maintenance, flight controllers, radio frequencies, flight theory, safety and risk management etc etc.
Where appropriate practical flying exercises and demonstrations will be included.
If you are interested in attending one of our training days, please see the dates below, and remember, numbers are strictly limited.
We have released the following date for the next course that will be held in Yass, NSW between 10am and 3pm

Below are some testimonials from recent attendees of our courses.
I have just completed the training course for Manufacturers training with Mongrel Gear of Yass and it was an outstanding aid
specific to multi rotor craft. It’s an absolute joy to study and train on material that is 100% SPECIFIC to these aircraft.
I say this in respect to the nebulous irrelevance of training for RPAS via the PPL route.
Learning specific info for multi rotor has to be a huge safety initiative for the industry.
Having recently decided to change occupations and become a Commercial UAS Operator I was unsure of what course of action to take. Luckily I found Mongrel Gear and since then haven’t looked back.
The course began with theory for the first half of the day with John providing clear and concise information and answering all questions raised. The course work provided is very well set out and of great use to you after the course. After a great lunch we then moved onto the practical side of the training with John demonstrating and providing a lot of very useful techniques and knowledge for Multi-rotor platforms.
Through this course I have gained much greater understanding of the Platforms, electrical components, flight controller and receiver programming , batteries, operating procedures and most importantly SAFETY. The crew at Mongrel Gear was also able to assist with many other queries about FPV platforms.
By the end of the day I felt much more comfortable and competent with the safe operation and maintenance of my platform. All in all this is an extremely worthwhile course for any enthusiast or person looking to further their RPAS Certification. This has given me the ground work to move from being an enthusiast to a professional.
I recently attended the RPAS training course delivered by John Fleming from Mongrel Gear Australia.
Having participated in several technical and non-technical courses over the years I found the RPAS training to be well structured and delivered to a high standard. John tailors the training to ensure inclusion at all levels and instils a sense of inquisitiveness and humour into his training.
The course notes are excellent and fully support both the practical and theoretical training. Included were visual aids which were used to good effect. Detailed explanations were well presented and questions were answered thoughtfully and thoroughly.
Reading manuals for hours on end can be a daunting and a frustrating task and this course has improved the learning process by demonstrating the basic tasks and programming required.
The training is very informative and just some of the outcomes are:
• tips and tricks for maintenance and set up
• flight theory
• safety and risk awareness
• flight training suggestions (in course handbook)
• pre and post flight safety checks
• Battery safety
As a result of completing this training course I feel more confident in my ability to maintain and operate a remote controlled aircraft.
Recently both myself and my chief pilot put ourselves through the RPAS training course run by Mongrel Gear.
Right off the bat we were very impressed with the fact that John, the course instructor was happy to come meet with us at a location, which we chose to do the course.
I had no idea what to expect from the course and was quit nervous about it, as I knew nothing about RPAS at all.
Straight away I felt relaxed as John was a very nice guy and extremely well informed when it came to the information he was teaching. He explained things very well and really helped us to understand the areas of unmanned aircraft such as safety, batteries, flight controls with different machines, maintenance on the 2 copters we had organized through him and risk factors etc.
After all the theory was completed, it was time to get out and have a fly, an absolute professional John was, explaining pre flight safety and what to expect on take off etc, he ran through a few maneuvers with us and answered all questions we had.
We left the course having past with flying colours, with confidence in our abilities to take it to the next stage with flight training.
We were both very fortunate to find Mongrel Gear and are looking forward to a long future relationship with them. The top shelf service has continued into our setting up of business and gaining valuable training hours on our new machines.
Thanks John and thanks Mongrel Gear.
